  1. Root & Offspring of David Rev. 22:6-16

  2. Source and Object 22:6 – The Lord God – to His servants 22:16 – Jesus – to you (His servants) Study seven things Jesus wants His people to remember.

  3. Who Is Christ? Deity (22:13; Is. 44:6; 48:12) John’s testimony begins (Jn. 1:1) and ends (Rev. 22:13) with the Deity of Christ. Authority (22:16; Mt. 1:1) – source and descendant of David (Mt. 22:42-46). Light (22:16; Mt. 2:2) – Stars – navigated ships; herald the dawn of a new day. His words guide (22:18,19).

  4. The Word “These words (logoi) are faithful and true” (22:6; Personified, Jn. 1:1-3; 14:6). Jesus is faithful and true (3:14; 19:11). If Christ is God – His words cannot be amended by man (2 Tim. 1:13; 3:16,17; Gal. 1:6-9).

  5. Worship of God Do not worship angels (19:10; 22:8,9). How? Praise (4:10,11) Sing (5:9), pray (6:10), in the Spirit (1:10). Barclay: two great beginnings: the day we are born into the world and the day we discover whyborn into the world! Eccl. 12:13 Note the order – first know who we worship, then how (Acts 17:23).

  6. Blessing Promised Blessings contingent upon obedience (Rev. 22:7,14). We must be “bless-able” – keep and do are Present Tense – not sporatic. “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed” (Jn. 8:31). Right to tree of life (2:7), and to the city (3:12).

  7. Judgment of God “I am coming quickly” (22:7,12,20). Talking about judgment against the enemies of His people (19:20). Principle applies – life is a vapor (Jas. 4:14); judgment is near for each one. Two classes: unjust & filthy (enemies) and righteous & holy (saints) (22:11).

  8. The Bride The church is the bride (22:17; 2 Cor. 11:2; Eph. 5:32). May include inviting others May refer to longing for return of bridegroom (22:20; 2 Pet. 3:12). If Christ came today, would you be disappointed? Would your plans be upset?

  9. Final word - Grace Rev. 22:21 – “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.” It is free – but conditional (vs. 17-19). The world’s hatred of Christ was a gift – but unmerited! Salavation is a gift – not merited! God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense!

  10. Conclusion Jesus is “the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth (and He) loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood…I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and Death” (1:5,18).
