  1. 5 Recipes to Help You Keep Trim and Slim

  2. All that life has to offer- Name, Fame, Love and Riches-are of no meaning if you have to struggle, wheeze and whine through your days on Earth. Our poor stomachs. We throw any and everything that we can lay our hands on into them. Yet, those poor accommodating bags keep doing just that – accommodating. Until one fine day indiscriminate diets will land us in the soup. You put your hand on a flame and you’ll draw it away like a shot. The effect is immediate, the cause known. Bad eating habits, on the other hand, slowly but surely inch you towards the edge of a precipice and , if you aren’t careful, you’ll tumble into the abyss of ill health. When food is in good supply, we eat. When there are so many labour saving devices, we become couch potatoes. Stressful jobs leave you no time to be physically active. And that is how overweight has become a HUGE malaise today.

  3. The way to good health and ideal body weight is to equip yourself with knowledge and research of the food to eat, healthy methods of cooking and nutritional values so you can care for your health as well as that of your loved ones. Beware! It’s not just the end product that matters. Methods of cultivation have become increasingly chemical dependent : we use pesticides and fertilisers which leave life-threatening residues in all the things that we eat besides permanently damaging land and water bodies. There’s a call for organic methods of farming which is steadily getting louder as the harmful effects of chemicals become more apparent.

  4. Jaggery, Ragi and Jowar Powder Health Drink- power packed Foods rich in complex carbohydrates like Ragi and Jowar give you a feeling of fullness as they take time to be digested and, as a consequence, you eat less. No wonder then that these millets are now a hot favourite among nutritionists and health experts. Organic Ragi and Jowar powders can be combined with Jaggery to make a healthy filling and tasty drink. This is a yummy way to introduce healthy foods to children too. Jaggery is a much better sweetener than sugar as it is loaded with antioxidants and aids in digestion. Take care to use only in moderation. Try this easy to make and easy to store health drink concentrate

  5. Savoury Ragi Kanji- a toast to good health If you aren’t a great one for the sweet touch, you can make a savoury Organic Ragi Kanji. Ragi, especially, has very high fibre content. It also has a very low Glycemic Index – this means that since it takes time to be digested, sugars are released into the body very slowly and there is no sugar spike making it a boon for diabetics. This makes a very hearty and filling breakfast for young and old alike. Masoor Dal Soup- complete meal Lentils are easier to digest and greatly helpful to weight watchers. They are a source of lean protein, rich in iron and dietary fibre. If you don’t want to eat them as a boring old dal, you can use them to make soups . Organic Masoor Dal (red lentil or Egyptian lentil) is tasty to eat and quick to cook.

  6. Pineapple – Wheat Grass Smoothie Wheatgrass is a natural, safe and extremely powerful aid in losing weight . Not only is it a good appetite suppressant, but it also stimulates your metabolism making you burn those calories and whittle away those extra inches. It is high in iron and vitamin A and is truly a superfood. Blend : • 1/2 cup green grapes • 1/2 shot of wheatgrass or 1/2 packet of powdered wheatgrass • 1/2 peach, pitted • 1/2 cup pineapple, cubed • 4 ounces of filtered waters

  7. Flax Seed powder Flax seeds are a storehouse of Omega 3 Fatty acids which contribute towards building HDL or good cholesterol. This wonder seed has the added benefit of being high in mucilage gum which not only aids in good absorption of nutrients, but prevents the stomach from emptying food too quickly. Its high insoluble fibre content aids in fat loss and keeps sugar cravings at bay. Heard of the South Indian Gun Powder? It’s not lethal – just a nickname given to that delicious powder or “podi” that accompanies idlis and dosas. Cooking has not been dubbed an art for no reason: so get creative , innovate and adapt traditional recipes to serve up those meals that will keep weight in check and give you good nutrition.
