  1. The Life of a Spartan Solider! By: Krista Froome

  2. What is similar about the way your topic is portrayed in the movie and in the research you’ve done? • The similarity between the way my topic is portrayed in the movie and in the research I have done is, Spartans would be taken away at seven years old, and would have to learn how to fight and then fight their enemies for their country. At age twenty, the Spartan citizen began his membership in one of the syssitia composed of about fifteen members each, of which every citizen was required to be a member. Here each group learned how to bond and rely on one another. The Spartan exercised the full rights and duties of a citizen at the age of thirty. In the movie they only showed the King of Spartan when he was young left his town to fight for himself. They did not show the syssitia the Spartan men had to be part of.

  3. What is different about the way your topic is portrayed in the movie and in the research you’ve done? • The thing that is different in the movie and the research I have done is, that when the Spartan soldiers went to war the Spartan’s wife would customarily present him with his shield and say: "With this, or upon this’’ meaning that true Spartans could only return to Sparta either victorious or dead. If a Spartan were to return to Sparta alive and without his shield, it was assumed that he threw his shield at the enemy in an effort to escape, and act punishable by death or banishment. In the movie they did not show the wives of the Spartans doing this. It just showed them all leaving for battle.

  4. Why do you think your topic was portrayed the way it was in the movie: similar, different or otherwise? • I think that my topic was portrayed different in the movie. It didn’t show a lot of how the Spartan soldiers lived or the things that they did. The movie was more just showing them at battle.
