  1. Antigone: Who is the Tragic Hero? Turning your Type One into a Type Four

  2. The Goal • Turn your Type One paragraphs into one solid Type Four paragraph – that means a few drafts, some peer editing, and addressing three FCA’s (Focus Correction Areas)

  3. Our FCA’s: • List three reasons why Antigone or Creon is the tragic hero – what do you need to know, then? • The definition of TRAGIC HERO! • This FCA is worth 15 points • Capitalize all appropriate words – what does that mean? • Beginning of sentences, proper nouns • We’ve discussed this many times in DLP’s! • This FCA is worth 10 points • Underline or italicize the title of the play – where have we learned about this? • DLP’s! • This FCA is worth 5 points

  4. The Process • Review your Type One • Read any notes I’ve made (not everyone will have them) • In re-reading your Type One, think about the FCA’s listed on the previous slide. Have you addressed them all? • Review the definition of Tragic Hero (in your reading guide) • a character who makes a mistake or has a fatal flaw that, combined with fate and external forces, brings on a tragedy

  5. The Process (cont’d) • Using the given Collins paper, revise your Type One into a Type Three • Put your name at the top right • List the type of writing (three) at top center • List all three FCA’s on the paper at the top left • Think about what you want to say • Make some notes that list the three reasons WHY you think Creon or Antigone is the tragic hero • You may use ONE idea from the paper in your reading guide, ONE idea from the quotes, but the FINAL idea must be your own creation

  6. The Process (cont’d) • Draft your Type Three paragraph • Pay close attention to your notes • Pay close attention to the FCA’s • This revised paragraph is due TOMORROW • We will revise your revisions () tomorrow with a peer • Eventually your perfected paragraph will be uploaded to the Wiki • Questions?

  7. Antigone: Who is the Tragic Hero? Day Two – Type Three to Type Four with Peer Editing Have your Type Three from yesterday out on your desk

  8. Peer Editing • Quick check • Choose ONE person to trade your paragraph with (or do a three-way trade among three people) • Let’s talk briefly about whom you’ll choose… • Write YOUR name on the TOP LEFT of your peer’s Collins paper • Read through your peer’s paragraph once • Do not make any notes or corrections yet – just read for comprehension

  9. Peer Editing • Read through the paragraph a second time, and this time use a marker to identify or correct the following: • FCA #1: Look for the three reasons your peer listed as to why Antigone/Creon is the tragic hero • Number the three reasons using the marker • FCA #2: Ensure all proper nouns, proper pronouns (I), and beginnings of sentences are capitalized • Use the marker to identify any times they DID NOT do this • FCA #3: Ensure the play’s name is underlined any time it is mentioned • Use the marker to correct any times it is not underlined • Make sure your peer did NOT underline Antigone’s name when she is mentioned as a character

  10. Talk About the Editing • Return the paragraph to its author • Read through the notes or corrections that your peer made – do you have any questions? If so, ask them. • Do you have any questions for me? • Once all questions have been answered, it’s time to revise again.

  11. Revising • Go to my wiki: http://mrsreinert.wikispaces.com/ • On the left, look for CP English 10 – click on Collins Writing under CP English 10 • If you haven’t joined the wiki yet, please do so by clicking on “Join” at the top right and follow the instructions • Open the file for Collins Paper – Types 3, 4, 5 • Save and rename the document to include YOUR name (i.e., mine would be “Collins EReinert”)

  12. Revising (cont’d) • Fill in the information at the top of the paper • Name, Date, Period • # = FOUR • FCAs – copy them from your Type Three, including points (make font smaller if necessary) • Choose a title for your paragraph and write it next to “Title” • DELETE the lines, including the X’s. (Since you will be typing this and DOUBLE SPACING it, you won’t need the lines and X’s.) • At the top of Word, change the spacing to 2.0 spacing – do so now so you don’t forget later

  13. Revising (cont’d) • Begin typing your TYPE FOUR- Keep in mind: • The FCA’s – always think about what is expected from the piece of writing • The notes and revisions your peer gave you • Any ideas or suggestions I gave you • When you are finished typing, SAVE your work!

  14. Uploading to the Wiki • NOTE: You have to be a member of the wiki to complete this step! • Go back to the wiki (http://mrsreinert.wikispaces.com/) and go back to the Collins Writing link • Click on the “Edit” icon in the top right corner of the page • Scroll down to the Upload Grid • Write your first and last name in the first column • Click in the second column, and click on the “file” icon at the top of the page

  15. Uploading to the Wiki (cont’d) • In the box that opens, click on the “Upload Files” button on the left • Find your file and click “Save” • After a few seconds, your file will appear in the box – click on it • The file should now appear in the “Document Upload” column • Click SAVE on the editing box • Double check that when you click on your document, it opens and works

  16. Due? • This revision is due by Sunday night, 11:59 p.m. (1/15/12) • You will have class time tomorrow to complete this task if you don’t finish today. • Try uploading BEFORE Sunday night. If you have problems, contact me immediately. I won’t be able to help you after 10:00 p.m. on Sunday!
