  14. How to make the most of your time at Brookes as an International Student

  15. My experiences at Brookes as an international student

  16. I wish I was told: Don’t cross a road when an emergency vehicle is approaching. Be careful of phone marketing The places to shop Places to visit I needed a laptop to do my assignments.

  17. It’s useful to know Visit the Students’ Union and ask what opportunities are available for students. The acronyms used within Brookes: PIP, HKSC etc. ISAS is always there to help. If you have problems with your modules, contact your Academic Advisors. You can get student discounts at different shops around Oxford. Get an NUS Extra card from the SU reception. If you are between 16 and 25 years old, you are able to get a National Rail Card- you can a discount on travelling to different counties by train. If you can’t understand what the lecturer is saying, you can always talk to PAL leaders who will help you with that module.

  18. It’s useful to know cont… • The places to shop: Primark, New Look, Apricot, Zara, River Island.- Enjoy the sales!! • The places for general shopping: Tesco (on Cowley Road), Sainburys, Waitrose. Co-op. • Mobile phone companies: Orange (you can get Orange Wednesdays), O2, Vodafone, 3, Virgin. • You can get either a contract or Pay As You Go • No tv? BBC iplayer/ Sidereel/You Tube • Cowley Road has international shops • You can only work a maximum of 20 hours a week during semester-time. • Keep your things safely. Don’t just leave your stuff lying around.

  19. Psssst… You don’t have to buy all the books. You can find some of them online and others in the library. Make sure you make back-up copies of all your work. You may sign up for societies but make sure you don’t get too tied up with activities- also concentrate on your coursework. Make sure you have a budget that you stick to. Participate in group work and seminars Don’t do things that you don’t want to do just because your friends are doing it. Enjoy your time at Brookes!!!!

  20. How to get the most out of University • Study abroad • Clubs and Societies • Paid and Voluntary work experiences • Student Representative • Student Ambassadors

  21. Plan for tomorrow • Need to attend a session between 10-12pm…see the Wiki for more details (go to EL19a or EL19b) • A free lunch! • Field Surgeries and meeting your academic adviser Business School
