  2. POSTER FROM MAY 24 MEETING: GOAL 1 – DIVERSIFY ECONOMY PRESENT: Bob Larson, Jane Bennett, AGRICULTURE-- 1. Field test alternative crops 2. Year-round greenhouse, organic and aquaponic & geothermal 3. Cattle? MINING— Encourage “Responsible Mining” Evaluate current reg’s-Identify hurdles Investigate successful compromises Educate re: Resources-Current Technologies ALTERNATIVE ENERGY— Continued Geothermal Development Explore Biomass Energy Development Encourage solar opportunities

  3. POSTER FROM MAY 24 MEETING: GOAL 2 – BRAND OURAY COUNTY PRESENT: Jennifer, Brian, Patsy, Rick, Jen IDEAS-- 1. Local Focus: Within County & Without County (attract business) 2. Identify Market: survey, questionnaire, chamber info 3. Financial Resources: associate w/ each action item Identify natural & existing resources: amenities, trails, businesses, hot springs, parks, open spaces… Objectives: 1. Identify collaborative goals a. Expand committee representation Focus and build on existing community assets Identify/define customers, residents, business resources Identify & promote business products, lifestyle, resources (see #4 above) a. Marketing package for Ouray County; branding ag products “made in Ouray County”

POSTER FROM MAY 24 MEETING: • GOAL 5 – BROADBAND • PRESENT: Craig Kaminski, Gary Hansen, Lynn Padgett • Email linkup • Attend 6/12-6/13 conference in Nathrop, CO on Broadband to Western Slope • Develop a cost/benefit of the lack of viable broadband in/around Ouray County (data will be gleaned from the above conference) • Case study on business who didn’t move to Ouray County & what that “cost” us • Better understanding of Qwest-Silverton lawsuit results & how that affects us • Identify businesses that rely on viable broadband

POSTER FROM MAY 24 MEETING: • Subcommittee Report Notes • Branding Subcommittee report: • Identify– financial resources; natural resources, collaborative goals, expand community representation, create a “made in Ouray County” logo • Creative District Subcommittee report: • Get familiar with HB 1131 legislation • Identify Ouray County arts groups (see www.ouraycountycolorado.org – participating organizations for a start • Identify Ouray County artists (contact organizations, visit Art Speak monthly meeting at Ridgway Library) • Create an application to blow the state away! • Broadband Subcommittee report: • Study verdict of Qwest/Silverton case; Identify businesses in Ouray County dependant on broadband; go to Mountain Connect Conference; cost benefit analysis; case studies. Note Colorado ranks 42/50 in broadband infrastructure!

POSTER FROM MAY 24 MEETING: • EDC Formation/Incubator & Subcommittee Reports • EDC Subcommittee will meet on June 7 • Set up officers of the subcommittee; and identify liaisons with the subcommittees • Discussion of a regular monthly meeting time & date (later learned this one presents big conflicts) – next big group meeting will be changed to June 16, 6-8 pm, at Ouray Community Center (if location confirmed) • Rec Tourism subcommittee report: they will work on aquiring info and creating a county-wide marketing plan. Brandy Ross will be Chair of this subcommittee. • Diversify… Subcommittee report: • Ag – field test alternative crops, attract year-round green house operations; need cattle industry to join in • Encourage responsible mining by looking at regulations/barriers and education/outreach • Encourage geothermal/biomass/solar development

POSTER FROM MAY 24 MEETING: ACTION ITEMS Region 10 gets names of folks on the EDC “Incubator/Formation” Committee and affirms that this Committee and its members are a Region 10 committee, to allow for coverage of activities and committee members by Region 10’s 501 c(3) status and liability insurance EDC will name liaisons to each of the Goals Subcommittees (Diversify Business Retention/Expansion/Development; Branding; Creative District; Recreational Tourism & Marketing; Broadband/Infrastructure) EDC Incubator/Formation Committee will meet June 7, 6-8 pm, at the Ouray Community Center and choose committee leadership/officers at that meeting. EDC Incubator/Formation Committee will look at tweaking “Goal #1” language for a Mission Statement EDC Incubator/Formation Committee will start work on Bylaws.
