  2. Why were some of S.E. Hinton’s books banned in certain schools?

  3. One of the many reasons why her books were banned was gang violence. This discouraged many schools from reading her books.

  4. Slang language also contributed to the banning of some of S.E. Hinton’s in certain schools.

  5. Young drug abuse and family dysfunction created controversy among readers and schools, contributing to the ban.

  6. How has S.E. Hinton influenced modern culture? (Film, literature, etc.)

  7. She helped change the young-adult genre from idealistic fiction to a more realistic point of view.

  8. She exposed adult readers to the reality of teenage lives through her portrayal of their everyday experiences.

  9. Her books created controversy among some readers due to their portrayal of negative events/actions. (Drinking, smoking, mugging, etc.)

  15. The personalities of her friends provided her with much of the inspiration for the novel’s characters.

  16. Most of her friends were greasers, and this inspired her to share their outlook on life.

  17. Her main inspiration was observing one of her greaser friends nearly beaten to death.
