Background • Two story home (4 occupants) • All electric (electric forced air furnace) • First floor is concrete slab (walls and ceiling) • Second floor was added in 2006/2007 • Electric bills doubled since 2nd story was added • Original blower door test – 9500 cfm@25 pascals • Majority of leakage from second story

  3. Improvements Completed Air Tite Insulation (Goshen, Indiana) spray foamed entire attic area All lighting changed to cfl’s Air-to-Air heat pump installed correctly by Huntington Heating and Cooling (heat pump installed 3 years prior, but never operating correctly) Duct system updated by Huntington Heating and Cooling (more return air, and supply duct reconfigured) New 50 gallon electric A.O. Smith water heater installed Receptacle and light switch gaskets installed Installed plex-glass around basement windows Air sealing around recessed lighting and supply registers Final blower door test – 2200 cfm @ 50 pascals

  4. Total kWh usage September 2008 to September 2009 • Average monthly kWh usage -4,478 September 2009 to September 2010 • Average monthly kWh usage -2,490 Average monthly kWh savings – 1,988 Total kWh savings for 1 year -23,856!!!

  5. Bill Summary Bill average (Sept. 2008 to Sept. 2009) (adjusted to current rate structure) $409.00 Bill average (Sept. 2009 to Sept. 2010) $241.00 Total savings for the year $2,016.00

  6. Summary 2008/2009 heating season the Baryo’s thermostat setting was 68 degrees 2009/2010 heating season the thermostat was set at 71 degrees House is much more comfortable and considerably more quiet No moisture problems on the main two levels of house

  7. Summary (cont’d) Slight moisture in basement, dehumidifier has been installed and has taken care of the problem Mr. and Mrs. Baryo once again want to thank everyone who took part in this venture, they are extremely pleased!!

  9. Background Single story home on slab (1 occupant) Electric water heater 80% propane furnace Central A/C unit House was built in the 1960’s Attic insulation - approximately 2” of old fiberglass batts Numerous open connections between house and attic

  10. Improvements Completed Air sealing in attic Cellulose insulation added in attic by DeHoff Insulation to a level of 14” New 50 gallon electric A.O. Smith water heater installed Air-to-Air heat pump installed by Flow-Tech Plumbing and Heating Sealed the ducts in attic with Mastic Replaced lighting with cfl’s Installed receptacle and lighting switch foam gaskets Caulked around windows Installed garage shelving (removed storage flooring in attic to allow even layer of cellulose)

  11. Total kWh usage September 2008 to September 2009 • Average monthly kWh usage – 510 September 2009 to September 2010 • Average monthly kWh usage – 566 Total kWh increase for the year – 672 kWh Total bill increase for the year - $64.00

  12. 3-11-08 to 8-31-09 880 gallons @ $1.89 $1,663.20 Total savings 3-14-09 to 8-31-10 408 gallons @ $1.89 $892.08 - $771.12 Propane Usage

  13. Bill Summary Total electric bill increase - $64.00 Decrease propane usage $771.12 Overall savings - $707.12!!!
