What is AP Multimedia Archive? • AP Multimedia Archive is a collection of images gathered by the Associated Press from affiliates and stringer photographers around the world. • This collection is constantly being updated (often every minute) and contains up to date photographs on a wide variety of topics. • In addition, PDF graphs and charts, audio files and other text is supplied.

Why being patient is important…. • AP Multimedia Archive contains over 500,000 images that are updated within minutes of being accepted by the Associated Press. • Because of the extent of the database, the first loading of the database takes longer than other databases. • It may take almost 2 minutes for the search page to load, but the information is worth the wait!

  7. AP Multimedia offers choice…… Using the AP Multimedia Archive gives users the option of searching for audio files, graphic PDF files, International pictures and text. The toolbar is on the left side of the screen and gives users options for searching. Users may choose the number of results shown, the way the results are organized and the type of results that to be found.

  8. Searchable by date, person, event or situation AP Multimedia archive allows users to narrow a search to a specific person, event, date, or situation.

  9. Daily headlines……. AP Multimedia Archive also Provides up to date headlines and photographs. Often these photos are available within minutes of the event happening!

  12. Along with thumbnails, the results page offers a brief description of the picture…..

  13. Choosing an image…… When an image is chosen, simply click on the download link. The image will load and can be manipulated—cut, pasted, copied, resized, etc. to fit the need of the user.

  15. What kind of file? Users may select images with captions attached to the image or may select the image with the caption in a separate text iile.

  17. Saving the image….. When the image has been downloaded, it can be saved to a permanent file by right clicking and choosing the save as function

  18. Using PDF charts….. • PDF charts are valuable for bringing information about a variety of subjects to the classroom. • PDF charts are designed to make statistical and sociological information clear. • AP Multimedia contains hundreds of such charts.

  19. When searching for PDF charts, it is important to choose graphics PDF for the search.

  21. Graphic PDF files are downloadable and can be printed out on a plotter or oversized printer.

Saving images….. • Images may be saved in the user’s network • File or may be saved to the computer’s hard drive. • When the image has loaded, simply right click on the image and choose where to save the image. • Images in .jpeg, .bit, and .gif formats are easier to work with than .art files.

Audio files…… • Audio files are also contained in the database. • These files can be searched as any other subject and the results will be shown in the same format. • Audio clips come in a wide variety of lengths-be sure to note the time before downloading-longer clips can take several minutes to download!
