  2. Game • Materials (depending on number of groups) • 70 – 80 $1 bills • 60 – 70 marbles • 15 energy tokens • 10 environmental tokens • 4 cups • Objective • Each groups needs to get get 10 water marbles, 2 energy tokens, and 1 environmental token • Set up • 5 groups • Group 1 - $20 • Group 2 - $15 • Group 3 - $13 • Group 4 - $10 • Group 5 - $13 • Dam 1: $ 3, 2 water, 1 environment • Dam 2: $ 3, 1 water, 1 energy • Import: $ 2, 2 water • Groundwater: $ 2, 4 water (maximum 12 waters available)

  3. Game • Each group must provide their community with water, energy, and be environmentally friendly. They do this by purchasing 10 water tokens, 2 energy tokens, and 1 environmental token. • After the groups receive their money they should come up with a plan on how to meet their requirements by buying from a combination of water sources (dam 1, dam 2, import, and groundwater). • When they are ready, students can come to the front of the room to purchase the water. If students buy from dam 1 and dam 2 be sure to provide them with an energy or environmental token. • There is only enough ground water for 3 purchases. When it runs out, make an announcement and the students may have to revise their plans. • Not all groups will be able to meet their needs on their own but some groups will have extra money or resources. After they have tried to fix the problem as individual groups ,have them work as a class to make sure everyone has enough water. • After activity is over ask how many groups did not meet their requirements. Why is it important to work together as a region/state to meet water needs?

  4. Game Modification • Try to have five groups, if at all possible. Groups could have anywhere from 3-6 people and still be productive. • To add a group: • Group 6 - $13 • Add 4 water marbles to groundwater cup • To subtract a group (4 groups total): • Get rid of Group 5 (with $13) • Remove 4 water marbles from groundwater cup • Basically, groups with $20 and $15 can always meet their requirements as long as the students plan correctly. Groups with $13 can only meet their requirements if they have access to groundwater. Groups with $10 cannot meet their requirements and must decide what to sacrifice. If there are 12 marbles in the groundwater cup a maximum of 3 groups can get groundwater.

  5. Dam #2 $$$ Dam #1 $$$ Import $$ Groundwater $$
