Efforts to Accelerate RI Process Despite the benchmark of the Abuja Treaty-progress in RI remain low The AUC/ECA reports on RI (ARIA) -However, these lack mechanisms to monitor and track progress The AU Conference (Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire) called for the enhancement of the monitoring and evaluation of Africa’s integration through indicators In response, the AUC and the ECA has embarked on this exercise of developing RI index

Methodology The AUC and ECA worked on draft indicators with reference to the MIP, plus external experts Distinguishing implementation of MIP and RI index Selected indicators in line with Abuja Treaty and other similar treaties Selected indicators also based on availability of data Focus was also made on sectors being implemented in the RECs

  11. • Score for each REC will be calculated as the mean average of the scores for its member countries. • Score for the continent will be calculated as average of all African countries' scores." Computing Scores--Aggregation Indicators are scaled between zero and one- calculate as: (raw value for country– raw value for lowest ranked country) Score = (raw value for highest ranked country – raw value for lowest ranked country)
