  1. CHILD ABUSE IN CENTRAL OREGON • In 2011… • 2,500 reports of abuse and neglect • Child abuse happens early in life • Child abuse most often happens in the privacy of our homes • Family members are most often responsible for the abuse or neglect

CHILD ABUSE IN CENTRAL OREGON • Stress factors present in families where there is child abuse include: • drug /alcohol abuse • domestic violence • Involvement with law enforcement • Over 200 children spent at least one day in foster care • Human trafficking victims are 14-17 years old • Nationally 1:4 girls and 1:6 boys victims of child sexual abuse

COST OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT • Trauma results in increased likelihood of: • criminal behavior • substance abuse • health problems • poor academic outcomes • Costs to our community: • juvenile and adult criminal justice • law enforcement • courts • physical and mental health • foster care • special education • lost worker productivity
