Research and Development • Strong emphasis on applied research and development • Cooperation with industry as a base for research • Interconnecting the traditional fields such as mining, metallurgy, mechanical and materials engineering with new technologies such as supercomputing, nanotechnology and environmental science • Success in building new research infrastructure funded by the EU (150 mil. €) www.vsb.cz

  17. Centre ofExcellence – IT4Innovations • Centre of Excellence IT4I is the only Centre of Excellence in the IT field in the Czech Republic. Ostrava is becoming not only a national but also a global IT centre. That is, among others, involved in PRACE Initiative (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe) • The supercomputer will be used for research purposes – modelling of various behaviours such as floods, pollution simulation, design and optimization of materials, development of new drugs,etc. www.vsb.cz
