  1. ‘WINE & DRINKS’ The Botanical hopes to enlighten and enhance your wine experience, showing the differences between site specific wines with the same or similar winemaking philosophy, through vertical references and sub-regional examples. With more than a passing nod to those pioneers and mavericks in the wine industry, whose commitment and understanding of their chosen vineyard site and the source of their precious fruit, gives us the perfect accompaniment to well cooked cuisine and adds a little comfort to our lives in the form of wine.

  5. GIN : a shortish story The history of this botanical beverage has been a chequered one. First distilled in Holland in the 15th century, and called Jenever, it was used primarily as a medicinal liquid based on the ‘healing’ properties of Juniper. By the mid 17th century it was being used to cure all ailments ranging from kidney stones and liver issues to gout… , those crazy folks from the Nederlands used it to for a dash of pep and strength of soul before battle, hence the well known “Dutch Courage”..!! At the same time across the Channel the then King of England William of Orange had also become a massive fan, bringing the drink to the English upper class. Roll forward to the mid 18th century and we saw the now historical ‘gin craze’ period in London that bought about the ‘Gin Act’ of 1751 and caused rioting in the streets. It was then that this once humble little beverage truly became ingrained within our drinking society. During that time it said of the 15,000 or so drinking establishments in London at the time more than half were dedicated gin houses. See William Hogarths famous ‘Gin Lane’ piece below for a snap shot of the era….. Still need more..?? Well, taste your way around our selection and you will find that the popularity of Gin was & still is very well deserved. From artisanal newbies to archetypal stalwarts look no further for your botanical imbibement. 5 | P a g e

  12. ON TAP- BEER & CIDER COLONIAL BREWING CO. (PORT MELBOURNE VIC)– OUR HOUSE BREWS 320ml / 510ml Colonial Kolsch 7.5 / 12 4.8% A German Golden ale formally known as the Spruiker's Challenge Dutch Courage Brew. Our Kolsch has delicate hop flower aromas which precede a palate of lifted lemon sorbet and herbaceous notes. So crisp and balanced that it’s often mistaken for a pilsner. Colonial Small Ale Small by name but like the bantam this little guy rocks with flavour and kick. The first proper midstrength that tastes like a real beer has been winning hearts and changing minds. Styled around the love child of a middleweight American IPA and English bitter and favoured by the locals for its knock back abililty, withthe combination of Centennial, Citra and Cascade hops create a refreshing clean palate that’s all flavour and happiness. 3.5%6.5 / 11 6.5 /12 Colonial Project #18, ‘The emergence of Astra’ Who wants a straight up lager with a new hop and not all fancy and tricked up, we do! The Astra project beer is the love child of Colonial breweries and Ellerslie Hops Australia, it’s a new hop which will be ‘one to keep an eye out for’ as it is about to be huge. It’s flavour profile is of green melon which in turn produces a sweet & sour taste helping to give the palate a crisp, clean finish which is the taste that we love and miss.. Enough time talking, it’s time to enjoy this truly great lager, cheers. Colonial ‘Bertie’ Apple Cider 4.2% 6.5 / 12 4.5% Freshly squeezed local culinary table apples including royal gala and sundowners crushed lovingly with wild crab apples producing a clean, fresh “new world” cider of delightful drinkability. A medium body mouthfeel with just a touch of bite. Not too sweet, not too dry but just right..!!! Colonial Porter 6.2% 7.5 / 12 Roast them malts, me laddie,.. if its chocolatey, coffee dark goodness you enjoy this is you’re stop. Pulled through on nitro to give you a deliciously creamy and soft dark beer that will warm the cockles of your heart. The rich malts and soft northern English hops give this beer the thumbs up all around.. GUEST TAPS Sourced for their uniqueness, limited availability or just because we like the brewer.!!! Little Creatures Furphy Refreshing Ale (Geelong, VIC) 6.5 / 8.5 4.5% With it’s hops sourced out of Rostrevor Gardens (one of the world’s oldest hop farms in our very own Eurobin) and it’s malt made from wheat and barley sourced from the Wimmera district, this is a true local Victorian.
