  6. 1. The Middle East • Do you have any idea about the area of Middle East? Name some of the Middle Eastern countries. (Discussion)

  7. The Middle East is located in an area bordering Asia, Europe and Africa. It generally refers to the area from Afghanistan to Egypt, including the Arabian Peninsula, Cyprus, and Asiatic Turkey. The Middle Eastern countries include Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Turkey, Arabia, etc.

  30. The middle eastern bazaar refers to a kind of oriental marketplace. The bazaar played an important role in the society, which demonstrated that the backward and handicraft economy was prosperous. People relied on that kind of economy in their daily life. It is a significant contrast to our modern society.

  31. 3. Architecture of Gothic Style • What is Gothic Style? (Discussion) • --- a style of architecture originated in France in 11th century and popular in Western Europe between the 12th and 16th centuries, characterized by pointed arches, tall thin pillars, high arched roofs, stained glass windows, etc.

  32. 哥特式建筑 • 特点是尖塔高耸、尖形拱门、大窗户及绘有圣经故事的彩色大玻璃。在设计中利用十字拱和修长的立柱营造出轻盈修长的飞天感，以及新的框架结构以增加支撑顶部的力量，使整个建筑以直升线条、雄伟的外观和教堂内空阔空间，再结合镶着彩色玻璃的长窗，使教堂内产生一种浓厚的神秘宗教气氛。
