  2. What is an Entrepreneur? • Entrepreneurs—people who attempt to earn money & make profits by taking the risk of owning & operating a business.

  3. Advantages of Being an Entrepreneur. • personal freedom (pick your own line of work; set own hours; you decide what you’ll do each day) • personal satisfaction (entrepreneurs have a passion for their business…they do it because they love it!) • potential for increased income (assuming your business concept & hard work will keep you from becoming a statistic) • increased self-esteem (owning a business is very gratifying…knowing it is successful because of you!)

  4. Disadvantages of Being an Entrepreneur • great risk & potential loss of income (high failure rate among business start-ups) • long, irregular hours (16+ hour days are the norm) • need for daily discipline (many tedious, time-consuming tasks; there’s no calling in sick!)

  5. Characteristics of an Entrepreneur • organizational skills • tremendous personal drive • leadership ability • skills/knowledge specific to operating a business • many have “entrepreneurship” in their blood lines
