  1. Common Mistakes of First Time Cat Parents Having cat as a pet is the most favorable thing for humans. They not only augment our lives and provide companionship, but also beneficial for our health. Although cats are known as independent animals, it doesn't mean that you need not to take care of them. If your new year resolution is to adopt a cat, here are some suggestions on avoiding common mistakes made by 1st time cat owners. So without further ado, let's dive in! Keeping cat outdoor: Perhaps you have heard that indoor cats lifespan is 5 years more as compared to outdoor cats. Since felines are nocturnal, they meow more during nights. But don't let your cat out at night because they might get ill or they might become pray of other wild animals. Besides, spending most of the time outside can make your cat more destructive. However, if you think your fur baby behaves better outside, you can schedule supervised outdoor times using a properly fitting kitty harness. Glut of food: As per 2011 study by APOP, more than 50% indoor cats suffer from obesity. Most of the cat parents shower their love by feeding their cats too much. The excessive love in the form of food make them overweight and they have a hard time doing various daily activities. And eventually cats will have myriad health issues such as respiratory issues, joint pain and diabetes. Hence, it is imperative to provide the optimal portion of food to your cat.

  2. Litter Box: Like humans cats are very particular about their hygiene especially bathroom. If you have multiple cats, it's better to have multiple litter box as cats don't like to share their bathroom space. Otherwise they feel stress and prefer to eliminate outside the litter. Moreover, litter box placement matters a lot to cats. Its location should neither be too hard to find nor too far away. It should be kept far away from your fur babies food and water source because they don't like to poop where they eat. Besides, cleanliness is another thing which you need to take care of. In order to maintain a healthy litter, scoop out every day and replace the litter fortnightly.

  3. Shouting: Cat's parents should not expect their fur babies to follow rules from day one. They have their own way to live their lives. However, it doesn't mean that you let your cat to do mess in your house. Teaching your cat right habits is one of the most arduous works to do. Rather than punishing or screaming them for bad behavior, try to applaud them whenever they show good behavior. This will reinforce positivity on them and minimize the aggressive behavior. For instance cats like to scratch things. If your cat is scratching furniture, instead of punishing her, provide some scratching posts to them. Vet: Keeping an eye on your fur baby 's health is the top priority for every cat owner. It is the most common mistake for 1st time cat owners. There are few things which you need to closely monitor such as too much vomiting, blood in vomiting, frequent trips to the litter box, having pain while eliminating or any conspicuous change in their daily routine. In such cases always pay your visit to your vet, without giving a second thought.
