  1. RA-2/MWR ESLs Readiness Review • ESLs/IPF interface • CLS status • MSSL status • ESLs input to Level 2 algorithms verification group • Evolutions and updates mechanism

  2. ESLs/IPF interface • June 2001: new end to end TDS produced by Level 1b/2 ESLs (ALS/CLS/MSSL): • the IPF is currently analysing this TDS: SPRs have been generated by the IPF on the Level 2 TDS and closed either: • with the output of the reference processors debugging process (IPF problem) • or with a modification on the Level 2 TDS (code) or documentation (DPMs/IODDs) • Upgrade of ESLs reference processors in progress: • new algorithms and auxiliary files under implementation in the ref. processors

  3. ESLs/IPF interface • corresponding upgrade of the IPF/F-PAC • verification of the modifications by using a new level 2 TDS to be produced by the ESLs

  4. CLS status • Progress meeting held on 21st August at CLS: • upgrade of LOP code in progress: • MWR algorithms (wet tropo correction, water vapour and cloud liquid water contents, and atmospheric attenuation corrections) • ocean tide solution 1 • geoid/mss interpolation routines • off-nadir angles • upgrade of LOP auxiliary files and models: • RA2_SOI_AX (MWR coeffs, rain table, mss/geo interpolation window sizes, ocean tide sol. 1 coeffs) • RA2_OT1_AX from GOT99 (0.5 deg) • RA2_OT2_AX/RA2_TLD_AX from FES99 (0.25 deg)

  5. CLS status • MWR_LSF_AX: better resolution (from 1/12 to 1/30 of deg) • RA2_MSS_AX from GSFC00 (from 1/16 to 1/30 of deg) • new Level 2 TDS to be produced with: • modifications from new algorithms/aux. files implemented • eventual modifications deriving from SPRs raised by the IPF on the current TDS

  6. MSSL status • New final slope models (Greenland and Antarctica) delivered: • tested by the IPF • new Level 2 TDS to be produced with: • modifications from new algorithms/aux. files implemented • eventual modifications deriving from IPF SPRs

  7. Level 2 algorithms verification activities • Classification of algorithms: • algorithms also used in other missions (i.e. model iono correction, steady heights, ocean tides) • only precision and impact on the output parameters will be verified • new algorithms (e.g. ocean/ice2 retrackings, wind speed, dual freq iono correction) • extensive verification needed • Quantity of data used • small sets of data (1 or 2 orbits) to examine most of the output parameters • larger sets of data (between 7 days and 1 cycle) to perform statistical analysis, fine tuning, precision, …

  8. Level 2 algorithms verification activities • Type of data used: • FDGDR/FDMAR (IPF) and IGDR/IMAR, GDR and SGDR (F-PAC) • Products validation • Verification of the MPH and SPH (e.g. consistency of the information in the headers and in the records) • verification of MDS parameters not verified in the first stages • in parallel validation tasks for R. Scharroo and D. Cotton • Detailed analysis of each algorithm verification strategy to be done at the next L2 algos verif. group meeting (13/09/01)

  9. Evolutions and updates mechanisms • Necessity of upgrade aux. files and algos near the end of CP may arise, following the work done by cal/val teams. • Requirement to upgrade aux. files/algos to be triggered by sub-group leaders (RA2 L1b, RA2 L2 and MWR): • ESLs to write SPR on applicable DPM, to validate it on a prototype processor (copy of the ref. processor) and to produce TDS (to test evolution on IPF/F-PAC) that will be delivered to the CCVT coordinator. • If deliverables acceptable, they’ll be passed to ESA/Alcatel interface for IPF and to ESA interface for F-PAC, for implementation • Time scale very short, since this evolution has to be done before the end of CP
