Cooperation between German technical cooperation and private sector in Tunisia Advantages for technical cooperation • Private sector is engine of economic growth and development and political change agent • Less financial means from official German development assistance • This has important implications for German TC in Tunisia, where main areas of activity are in private sector development and environmental protection

Cooperation between German technical cooperation and private sector in Tunisia Working with private sector and mobilizing additional resources important in order to reach development goals in a sustainable way Through GTCIC, GTZ can reach companies which can be implicated in projects of technical cooperation:  GTCIC as ‚broker‘  Integrated Expert as interface • Public-private-partnerships as an important tool

Cooperation between private sector and technical cooperation My Role: • Contact person for GTZ-task managers • Responsible for information flow • ‚Distribute‘ work to different departments of GTCIC • Acquisition of PPP-projects with private companies • Half my time is spent on work for vocational training project of GTZ

Cooperation between private sector and technical cooperation Example: Vocational Training Goal of TC-project is to strengthen participation of companies and of private sector associations • Use German companies‘ best practice vocational training examples in Tunisia  Use example of role and functions of German CCIs in organisation and execution of vocational training for Tunisian associations

Cooperation between private sector and technical cooperation Example: Environmental protection/transfer of technologies  Information events in Germany and Tunisia: - seminars, conferences - Missions, business meetings  Shared management of a ‚company pool‘ to promote environmental technologies

  8. Promoting public-private-partnerships Why are PPP-projects interesting? • GTZ: strengthening technical cooperation through collaboration with private sector  Concrete areas for PPP-projects: - vocational training - environmental technologies

Promoting PPP • Role of GTCIC •  Advising entrepreneurs concerning regulatory framework, investment conditions, potential partners, market potential • Contact with ministries and agencies (customs, ministry of labor etc.) • Platform for sharing experiences with other entrepreneurs • Contact with potential business partners

  10. Promoting PPP Role of GTZ • country and sector specific know-how • Contacts in ministries and agencies • Project planning and management • Advice and supervision • Financial supprt and technical expertise • Monitoring of project execution

Promoting PPP Concrete examples of PPP projects • Vocational training in apparel sector • Vocational training in automobile electronic systems • Promoting environmental technologies • Modernisation of vocational training in the hotel sector • Continuous education program for energy managers in companies

Other Integrated Experts in Tunisia Other Examples of Integrated Experts in the private sector: • Integrated Expert as director of a vocational training center of a private apparel company • Mechanic for vocational training in a private apparel company, both working closely with TC- project on vocational training • Orthopedic technician training apprentices at private company and also teaching at a state-owned vocational training institute
