1. What is a myth? -is used to try to explain how the world works. has gods, goddesses, or other superhuman beings. Reveals the hopes and fears of mankind. Are passed down orally by generations Focuses on natural phenomena People and animals often change into something else have magic Example: Narcissus

What are legends? - Legends are about REAL people and their accomplishments. -The people lived in more recent times and are real people mentioned in history. -Based on facts, but without proof. -The story of this real person may be exaggerated. - Do not have magic -They are passed down orally by generations. -Examples: King Arthur, Robin hood

What is a Fairy Tale? - Good triumphs over evil, (happy endings) - Contains supernatural beings such as elves, dragons, fairies, trolls, etc. - has special beginning and ending phrases “once upon a time” and “happily ever after” - Royalty (kingdoms, princess...) - Takes place in forests, castles, cottages, or faraway lands - Set in the past (long, long ago) - May show the values of a culture Magical elements Passed down orally through the generations Example: Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty
