  2. Prompt • How does the conflict between cultural traditions and modern values affect the characters?

  3. Pronouns • Avoid them! • Do NOT use I, me, my, our, yours, you, etc. • Remember that your subject is the literature

Thesis • One statement (1 sentence) • In a literary analysis, it must include title, author, topic and point(s) made about the topic • Strategy: examine prompt and put it into your own voice and words, be sure to include all elements of the prompt (this keeps focus), write your thesis FIRST! • Thesis goes in the last line of intro. Why? • To transition into body paragraphs

Thesis Statement • Every story has a purpose for being told, but the three most important purposes of storytelling are explaining life’s mysteries, passing down cultural traditions, and teaching life lessons which are evident in “The Fisherman and the Jinnee” from “Genesis” and “PopolVuh,” “Sibi” from the Mahabarata, and The “Counsels of the Bird” by Rumi.
