  2. Project Area Along Bada-Bihali tributary of Siyul river Kahalo pass to Lahul-Spiti 3 panchyats of Tissa tehsil - Khajua, Jungra and Paddar Road connectivity till village Lojana of Jungra 2 hour walk to Khajua Panchyat from road head From Khajua four hours walk to the pastures

Project Area Work proposed in following forest areas • Village wise forest areas (10 forests) • Maps Extracted- Sumakh • Extraction season – April to November • Chandesi Forest (2 Kms from Khajua village) • MAPs extracted- Pandali, Chukri, Sumakh, Van Kakdu • Extraction season- April to September • ChabbiDhar (Half a day walk from Khajjua village) • MAPs extracted-Dhoop, Kaur, Patish, Salampanja • Extraction season- April to September

  5. Species Preferred focus on • Valeriana- In nearby and Chandesi Forest • Aconitum- Chabbi Dhar • Jurinea/ Picrorrhiza- Chabbi Dhar • Final focus after discussions with collectors

Strategy Discussions and meetings with right holders Exposure visits and capacity building exercises Focus Group Discussion with collectors and Gujjars/graziers etc. Consensus building strategy (species, areas, tenureal security, practices, benefit sharing) Baseline study Management plan + institutional design+ bye laws Benefit evaluation from improved processing Marketing plan

Support needed • From FD right through esp. planning + legal support • Financial support for regeneration of MAPs, Nursery Development and other forest produce (according to management plan) • Financial support for– 2 + 1 staff • Technical inputs – Nursery development/ propagation/ sustainable Harvest • Similar interventions in nearby valley/area • Marketing tie ups at higher level • From collectors and right holders

  9. Risk Factors • Consensus may not emerge • Few short term results • Initial restriction to nearby forests • Management costs may be very high • Rule breakers not caught/punished • No benefit from processing / marketing interventions
