AQIP Strategy Forum

This is a summary of the Strategy Forum held on February 10-12, 2010, where a team of 7-8 members from AQIP institutions attended. The team focused on Category 8 - Planning Continuous Improvement, discussing previous action projects, additional actions taken, and potential action projects. The forum outcomes included appointing a CQI Task Force, revising the PIE process, linking HR survey results with CQI training and projects, developing a celebration/recognition plan, conducting an assessment audit, and promoting participation in CQI.

  1. AQIP Strategy Forum February 10-12, 2010

  2. Strategy Forum • AQIP Institutions must attend once every four years with a team of 7-8 members. • 2010 team members included: • Dr. Knowlton • Cecelia Wittmayer, AQIP Liaison • Carrie Ahern • Ethelle Bean • Linda Brozik • Amy Crissinger • Mike Wilson, student • Jesse Wise

  3. Strategy Forum “Creating the Climate for Continuous Learning” • Homework: • Update Organizational Overview from Systems Portfolio • “Five Lessons Learned” document to be shared • “DSU Quality Efforts” document to be shared • Select one category from portfolio feedback to concentrate on at forum and prepare category worksheet

Strategy Forum Team chose: Category 8 – Planning Continuous Improvement This category was chosen because the overall theme of “opportunities for improvement” noted throughout the systems portfolio were in the area of process and, particularly, in evaluation of process and evaluation of outcomes.

Strategy Forum Previous Action Projects linked to Category 8: • Strategic Planning, AQIP and Institutional Effectiveness: moving in new directions (9/1/06 to 9/30/07) RETIRED. • Strategic Planning, AQIP and Institutional Effectiveness: Implementation Phase (1/1/08 to 12/31/09) Extended until 12/2010 Additional actions taken related to Category 8: • Development of Plan, Implement, Evaluate (PIE) process

Strategy Forum Potential Action Projects related to Category 8: • Identify high-performing AQIP institution to serve as mentor • Develop action project for analysis of data related to institutional processes • Incorporate PIE process into campus procedures • Develop continuous improvement training plan and identify participants

Strategy Forum Format consisted of 3-4 institutions per room with 2 facilitators Our facilitators were: Kathy Miser-Miller, Prof of Humanities & Speech at Colorado Mountain College (Steamboat Springs, CO) Karen Solomon, HLC Commission Liaison Institutions in our room: Cincinnati State Technical & Community College (Cincinnati, OH) Kishwaukee College (Malta, IL)

  10. Strategy Forum Outcomes for discussion: • Use “Continuous Quality Improvement” theme for 2010-2011 academic year • Appoint CQI Task Force to develop training plan for year • Revise PIE process to PIED (Plan, Implement, Evaluation, Debrief)

  11. Strategy Forum Outcomes for discussion: • Link HR survey results with CQI training and CQI project • Develop celebration/recognition (HR Plan) • Conduct an assessment audit (review data collection / reports: are they necessary?) • Develop an expectation of participation in CQI • Others??
