  2. Grade 1-2 FOSS Kit: New PlantsFOSS expects students to become familiar with the structures and functions of flowering plants (root, stem, leaf, bud, flower, seed) What can English learners do as they interact with this content and as you assess them?

  3. Student 1: Entering He CAN draw a picture of each plant structure and its function. He CAN label a familiar diagram you have used in class.

  4. Student 2: Developing She CAN write simple sentences about plant structures and their function using a word/phrase bank to assist with content vocabulary. She CAN use a visual as a support in her explanation about plant structures and functions.   5. Student 3: Expanding/Bridging He CAN explain the structures and functions of flowering plants by writing about his classroom plant or by describing the life cycle of a plant. He CAN do this by producing original sentences.
