Goal 1: Sustain a safe, supportive and inclusive community that prepares our students for life-long learning and success upon graduation.Goal 2: Attract and retain a diverse community of scholars to educate students; generate, apply, and disseminate knowledge; and contribute to economic development.Goal 3: Recruit, develop, and retain a professional staff to serve and support the expanding mission of the college.Goal 4: Partner with industry by providing highly-qualified students and graduates and access to the expertise of the faculty.Goal 5: Enhance the visibility of The William States Lee College of Engineering.

  3. Environmental Scan • State budget crunch – short term • Growth – 4000 projected in 5-7 years • Not many programs for what will be a top 30 COE • Modest percent of graduate student population • New facilities, but space remains tight • Administrative processes – need improvement • Computing service excellent, but becoming strained • Little diversity • Little activity using technology in teaching • Curriculum remains pretty much stationary • Salary compression and stagnant – but we have jobs

Challenges • Space: use wisely; get more • How to increase funding; better balance of sources • ABET and continuous improvement • Upcoming SACS accreditation • Increasing visibility/reputation • Change the student culture • Maximize student performance and graduation rates • Make Mosaic sustainable • Distance ed; using technology • Managing growth- we need to do more with more

  5. Opportunities bubbling up from units • EPIC – big prospect for every unit • Grow IDEaS (Infrastructure, Design, Environment and Sustainability) • Possible new programs and centers • MS Fire Protection, MS CM, MS/PhD Systems, Environmental, Biomedical, Optical Engr., etc. • Intelligent Energy Systems, Energy Infrastructure, Transportation, Computational Mechanics, etc. • Professional Development Certificate • Study abroad/international experiences • Expanding ISL – revenue stream for projects • Enhancing development efforts/fund raising • Creating a school from ET, FS and CM programs
