  1. Abiotic and Biotic Factors • Anything that affects a living organism that is itself alive, is an Biotic factor. • Abiotic factors are nonliving factors that effect an organism’s life and determine where it can live. • There are 5 Aboitic factors.

  2. 1. Water • Most bodies of organisms are composed of 50 to 95 % water. • Humans are about 50 to 65% water. • Water is important for cell functions.

  3. 2. Light • Sunlight is the source of all energy, without sunlight there would be no photosynthetic organisms living.

  4. 3. Temperature • Temperatures vary around the world, most organisms need to have a fairly consistent temperature all year around. Some fly south in the winter, others bundle up, and others sleep the winter away.

  5. 4. Air • Air contains important gases, such as Nitrogen, Oxygen, and Carbon Dioxide. • The atmosphere contains different parts that are necessary for life, such as the ozone layer.

  6. 5. Soil • How much nutrients, minerals, and moisture is in the soil will control what kind of plant life will be present. The type of plant life available will have an effect on the types of animals that will be present.
