  1. ATTITUDES AT THE CRUCIFIXION John 19:17-22, 25-30

  2. Our View of Jesus • This is the saddest scene in History. Mankind’s treatment of our maker. • More involved here than just a death. • Millions look back to it as the turning point in their life. • How do you see it?

  3. Antipathy - • “A strong, deep rooted dislike.” Anti-pathos. • Anything to hurt Him more. Gloating over their innocent victim. • Taunting Him as He hangs on the cross. • Obadiah 11-14; Judges 5:23; Psa. 137:7; Proverbs 17:5 • Did any of these ever play the, “How could I” scene?

  4. Apathy - • Didn’t hate. Didn’t care enough one way or the other. • The centurion & soldiers. Hardened and fatalistic. “One day it’ll be my turn to die.” • The two thieves. Didn’t sympathize. • Some came by chance – Simon of Cyrene. • Some by curiosity – there’s always a morbid crowd at a disaster.

  5. Sympathy – • To feel along with. • Mary and the other women. • John, who overcame the fear and guilt of the garden. • Father and Holy Spirit. • Would we have been in this group? Courage and love were required.
