  1. 7th Grade Orientation 2014-2015

  2. Communication • Primarily through e-mail. • If you do not have an e-mail, set up an account through Google (G-mail). • We send upcoming events, reminders, permission slips, etc… all through e-mail. • If no access to e-mail, please feel free to call. • You can provide your e-mail to the team on papers sent home the first day of school.

  3. Grading Practices • Overnight HW assignments due the next day. • If no HW ~ Working Lunch. Parents are informed through Parent Access when a working lunch has been issued. • 4 WL in a nine week period = BASD • Projects: 1 day late ~ 10 points off 2 days late ~ 20 points off 3 days late ~ 30 points off4 days late ~ Zero issued

  4. Responsibility Points • 50 R.P. each nine weeks. • Lose 5 points in each class: • Not prepared for class. • No name on papers. • Leaving class to go to locker to get materials for class. (Allowed to go to locker between every class). • No pencil, pen, paper, etc… • Yes, points can be earned back!!! Get interims signed!!!

  6. Grade Level Events • Theme: Rock & Roll • Bring items to decorate guitar on Thursday, Sept. 4th • Research unit in correlation with Art class: a Musician/Band inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. • Field trip in the spring to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. • Team Rewards

Language Arts • Full Implementation: Common Core Standards • Common Core Areas: • Reading: Literature • Reading: Informational Text • Writing • Speaking and Listening • Language (Grammar & Vocabulary) • Drill deeper into the content using higher level thinking skills (textual evidence, apply knowledge, critical thinking) • Reading Counts: • Not required. • Can be completed for bonus and end-of-year awards. • Homework nightly M-TH: Read for 20 minutes. • Reader’s Notebook (make sure your child has a NB).

Science • Students will learn to use the scientific process to ask questions, conduct investigations, gather and analyze information, and share their results. • Topics: Scientific Skills, Cycles and Patterns of the Earth and Moon, Conservation of Mass and Energy, and Cycles of Matter and Flow of Energy. • Assessments: • Tests – worth 100 points (study guides will be given before the test) • Quizzes – Point values will vary • Projects – Both individual and group • Experiments/Labs – Will be done throughout the year and will be done either individually, with a partner, or with a group

  10. World Studies • We will cover topics from 750 B.C. to 1600 A.D. These topics include: • West African Empires • Feudalism • Ancient Greece • Renaissance/Reformation • Ancient Rome • Western Expansion/Exploration • Ancient China • Students will complete quizzes, tests, and projects associated with each topic. • Implementation of new Ohio Academic Content Standards • NO Current Event Articles
