  1. Sustainability Roadmap www.engineeringforsustainability.org Energy Use Atmospheric Emissions Indoor Air Quality Serving our Members and Society via Research, Education and Standards

  2. Increased Energy Efficiency Minimum standards not enough for our Sustainability goals Agreement with U.S. Department of Energy in support of higher energy efficiency Goal for Standard 90.1-2010 is 30 percent energy savings beyond the 2004 standard

  3. Zero Energy Buildings • ASHRAE Vision 2020 plan commits Society to providing tools for producing market-viable net-zero-energy buildings by 2030 • Action Plan Highlights • Develop a building rating and branding system • Extend 90.1 beyond heating and cooling • Certify Sustainability Design Experts

  4. Green Building Standard Standard 189.1P is the first such green building standard in the US Will serve as benchmark for sustainable green buildings – does not apply to all buildings Addresses energy, impact on the atmosphere, sustainable sites, water use, materials and resources, and IEQ

  5. New Standards Coming Standard 189.2P - Design, Construction and Operation of High Performance Green Healthcare Facilities Standard 191P - Efficient Use of Water in Building, Site and Mechanical Systems Standard Methods for Power Measurement

  6. Advanced Energy Design Guidance • Move industry toward net-zero-energy buildings • Small office buildings • Small retail buildings • K-12 • Warehouses • www.ashrae.org/aedg

  7. Performance Measurement Protocols • Will provide a consistent method of measuring, expressing and comparing energy use, water use and indoor environment of buildings • Will establish baseline criteria in each area • Will further development of building energy performance standards

  8. Advanced Indoor Air Quality Design Guide • To provide practical guidance on design and construction, including decisions that affect operation and maintenance • Cooperative effort between ASHRAE and AIA, BOMA, EPA, SMACNA and USGBC • Started in fall of 2006 • 60% draft for peer review in February 2008

  9. ASHRAE Headquarters • Construction slated to begin September 15 • Incorporates ASHRAE technology and demonstrates its strong commitment to sustainability • Features living lab, and learning and meeting center • www.ashrae.org/building

  10. Certification • Healthcare design professional certification launched in June • Next exam available online • Sustainability scheduled June 2008 • www.ashrae.org/certification

  11. eLearning • Courses available on Fundamentals of HVAC Systems and 90.1 • 10 courses planned covering control systems, Standard 62.1, refrigeration, sustainability, 90.1 for architects, psychrometrics, and commissioning. • www.ashrae-elearning.org “Effective and great way to learn - especially when time and funds are always at a premium” - customer testimonial

  12. Enhanced Member Services Young Engineers in ASHRAE Online intern placement service Handbook improvement workshops Service Life & Operating Cost Database Download research project final reports Volunteer opportunities

  13. Join Us in New York! • Reach new heights in • Career advancement • Professional development • HVAC&R technology • Meeting information • Reasonable hotel rates • AHR Expo, Jan. 23-24 • www.ashrae.org/newyork Jan. 19-23
