Item: Schools and DL Program • Schools of Information Theory • 2011: Taiwan, Europe School (Barcelona), Wireless School (Oulu), North America School (Austin) ✔ • 2012: North America (Cornell), Europe (Turkey) • 2013: North America suggestion is PurdueMCC suggests approval of location but to work on the format and consider funding issue again in 2012 • Distinguished Lecturer Program • Looking for five new DLs for 2012-2013 (suggestions welcome) • Outgoing: Michael Gastpar, Andrea Goldsmith, Alon Orlitsky,Amin Shokrollahi, Sergio Verdú • Ongoing: Toby Berger, Max Costa, Alex Grant, David Tse,Raymond Yeung • Could be used more frequently to invite speakers!

  4. 2013 North America School at Purdue • MCC is supportive of location • MCC concerns: differences to past IT Schools • Speakers outside of Center of Science of Information should also be considered • Most organizers do not seem to be from ITSOC • No junior ITSOC faculty involved • Diversity of committee • Feedback: Organizers will address issues • Motion: approve location
