  2. Computer-based Music Perception Assessment for Children (CMPAC) • CMPAC is a tool accompanying Music Therapy in Pediatric Medicine: A Guide to Skill Development and Clinical Intervention by David E. Wolfe and Eric G. Waldon. • It is intended to be used for assessing music listening perceptions of young children (ages 4-7).

  3. General Facts • Created by David E. Wolfe and Eric G. Waldon • Created to help music therapists select different kinds of music therapy activities based on the interest the child shows in each song genre. • Can also be paired with other computer programs designed to accompany this program in order to provide further assessment.

  4. Why use CMPAC? • Convenience—laptop and simply be set on tray or table in front of the child. • Simple instructions—easy for child to operate. • Easy to keep records—can easily create files for individual patients.

  5. Data and Records • Printable data sheet—records number of seconds the child spends on each song. • Makes the therapist aware of which genre the child will be more responsive to. • Therapist can use this data to determine which activities to use and which will be most beneficial.

  6. Music Attentiveness Screening Assessment (MASA) • Measures the child’s attentiveness for a period of time during a music listening task (i.e. listening for specific events that occur within the song.) • Pairs the songs used in CMPAC while therapist provides visual aids that pair with the songs.
