Where is San José State University located? • IN THE HEART OF THE SILICON VALLEY • Close proximity to over 30 Fortune 500 companies • Located 40 minutes from Santa Cruz • Located 45 minutes south of San Francisco • Located one hour north of Monterey • The third largest city in California • The 10th largest city in the U.S.

Why is SJSU unique? • San José State University (SJSU) is located in downtown San Jose and is the founding campus of the California State University (CSU) system. • SJSU was founded in 1857 and holds the distinction of being the oldest public institution of higher education on the West Coast. • SJSU offers 134 bachelor's and master's degrees with 110 concentrations. SJSU's total enrollment was 30,448 in 2012, including over 4,700 graduate students, the largest graduate student enrollment of any campus in the CSU system. • SJSU is immensely proud of the accomplishments of its 205,000 alumni, 75% of whom live and work in the Bay Area. • Popular undergraduate majors at SJSU include business, engineering, visual and performing arts, nursing, psychology, justice studies, biology, kinesiology, journalism and computer science.

Davidson College of Engineering is ranked 2nd in the nation among public engineering programs offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees. • College of Business has the AACSB International Accreditation (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business). A distinction of excellence that less than 5% of business programs worldwide have earned. • SJSU is the number one supplier of education, engineering , computer science and business graduates to Silicon Valley, the world’s high tech capital.

On Campus Housing Requirement All admitted first-time freshmen who graduate from a high school located in a city outside a 30 mile radius of SJSU will be requiredto live on campus for their first year. If you graduated from a high school in one of the following cities, you are exempt from the SJSU on-campus housing requirement.

Fall 2013 Applicant Pool and Admissions Practices First-time Freshmen • Applications received: 27,698 • Students admitted by self-reported information: 17,860 (64%) • Average applicant GPA: 3.27 • Average SAT/ACT: 1031/22 • Undeclared: Local minimum eligibility index, 3150 (SAT) and 750 (ACT) • Undeclared: Non-Local minimum eligibility index, 3350 (SAT) and 800 (ACT) * Applicants are notified regarding their admission status in early February via mail and their MySJSU. There is no enrollment deposit, however, the intent to enroll deadline and payment for orientation is due May 1, 2014.

  11. Explaining Impaction Impaction: SJSU receives a greater number of applications from eligible students than we have the space to admit. Financial Aid and Scholarships • Each year more than $400 million in financial aid is awarded to eligible students at SJSU. • 21,048 SJSU students received financial aid for 2012-2013. • 1,404 scholarships were awarded for 2012-2013. • Over $54 million was awarded in state aid during 2012-2013. • Over $351 million federal aid was awarded for 2012-2013. • Greater than 50% of SJSU students receive financial aid. http://www.sjsu.edu/faso
