The Application Process • Applying for nomination, is done to Malmö Universitet • Malmö University will assess the applications and nominate students • Being nominated does not mean you are admitted to the partner university • After nomination the application process to the partner university begins • The partner university then processes the application through their own admission, and if accepted, then the student is ready to start the exchange • Right now we are the first step of this process: applying for nomination

  6. Whocan go on exchange studies? Otherprogrammes at US does not have an exchangeopportunity as part oftheirdegree

  7. The basic requirements for application to study abroad are: • By the time of the exchange, the applicant should have completed at least one year’s full-time study at Malmö University (60hp). • The applicant should be an active student at Malmö University at the time of the application. • The applicant should have completed at least 75% of studies during their previous semester, unless there are specific circumstances. • The applicant is a suitable candidate for study abroad, and considered to be a good ambassador for Malmö University. • The exchange studies should be accreditable towards the applicant's degree at Malmö University. • Studies at the host university should be on a full-time basis and the study period should be for at least 3 months (12 weeks). • The applicant should have adequate language skills in English, or in the language of the host institution (if other than English). See more information about the language requirements further down in this presentation. • At the time of the application to the partner university, the applicant (if nominated) must have completed all courses that he or she was registered for during the previous semester.

  8. The student must also accept the following to be eligible: After the exchange, complete an evaluation of the experiences for the benefit of future students. After the exchange, participate in exchange study information-sessions to share experiences. For Erasmus+ students only: undertake two language tests – one before the exchange and one at the end of the exchange period.

Selection Criteria When assessing your application, we look at the following: • Academic skills/merits • Personal motivation and suitability • Language skills • Choice of courses and ability to transfer credits towards your degree at Malmö University If there are more applicants than the number of places we will use these same criteria in deciding on who will get the nomination

Applying for nomination (to Malmö University) • Step 1: Check where you can go and choose which universities you are interested in • You can choose up to 5 universities, rank your choices in order of priority • Make sure to choose universities from the current announcement • Step 2: Fill out the MoveON application form (done online) • Step 3: Print and sign your MoveON application • Make sure you have included all parts of the application, incl. the supporting documents • Step 4: Make copies of your application • Step 5: Hand in your complete application before the deadline: ONLINE AND IN 2 PAPER COPIES Deadline is at 24.00 (midnight) 15 October Please note! You may not have access to Niagara this late?

Submission and deadline Deadline for submission is: 15 October 2019 (midnight) The completeapplication is to be handedin online throughMoveOn, and in TWO paper copiesto: • The box marked ‘Application Exchange Studies US’, by the exam boxes (floor 5, Niagara) alternatively • Via post to Sofia Johansson Malmö universitet Fakulteten för Kultur och Samhälle 205 06 Malmö The application, incl. supporting documents, need to be us at hand by deadline – both online and paper copies – regardless of how you choose to submit them

Study Plan in MoveOn • Your Study Plan should reflect what courses you intend to study, and how these relate to your programme and degree at Malmö University • You fill out one Study Plan per university you are interested in applying for • If there are any restrictions, you will find these on the current list of the announced places • If the course offer for the next academic year is not yet listed, you may be able to look at the list of courses from last year. • If you cannot find any courses at the university’s website, at least state the Field of Studies you wish to study • The Study Plan is not definite, but consider your choices carefully • It is your own responsibility to find and suggest courses that can be recognized within your study programme. • It is your own responsibility to apply for courses that are the equivalent of full time studies - see the partner universities’ web pages for more information Please, do not contact the partner university before you are nominated

  14. Study Plan: Full time studies IMPORTANT! This information is subject to change, it is the students responsibility to stay updated and apply for the correct amount of credits

  15. Statement of Purpose • Statement of Purpose is a personal letter in which you motivate why you want to study abroad, how ýour studies will relate to your main field of studies at Malmö University, and how the exchange will benefit you academically and personally. • You write one letter per application (not per university) • Maximum 1 page • You write your letter in English, alternatively in the language in which you intend to study study + an English translation • Questions to consider when writing your letter: • How can exchange studies be related to your education and to your future career? • How will an exchange semester benefit you on an academic and personal level? • Describe your expectations and what you hope to achieve from studying abroad. • Explain for the Department of Urban Studies why you are a good candidate. • Motivate your choices of universities and courses.

  16. Language Requirements for Bilateral Places(generally all universities in Australia, Asia and North America) If nothing else is stated in the announcement, the following generally applies: • A certified copy of your Swedish Upper Secondary School grades, with Swedish Upper Secondary School Diploma English course B with minimum grade VG • A certified copy of your Swedish Upper Secondary School grades, with Swedish Upper Secondary School Diploma English course 6 with grade A, B or C • A certified copy of your International Baccalaureate Diploma, with minimum grade 4 in English B (please note not all universities does not recognize IB) • TOEFL / IELTS with a score that meets the host university’s requirements (see “Language requirement” at the host university’s homepage). If you cannot show a valid certificate/exam-result at the time of nomination you need to make a Language Requirement Fulfilment Plan, explaining how the language requirements will be met before the exchange studies. You need to have a valid result at the beginning of the semester BEFORE the exchange semester!

  17. Tips for a Succesful Application • Start early! A good application is usually one where some effort has been put into it. • Find out where to go: see details in the current Urban Studies announcement. • Check the websites of the announced partner universities and find suitable departments and courses for your studies • Take advantage of the possibility to choose five universities in your application. • Find out what previous exchange students recommend: https://www.mah.se/english/Student/Go-International/Students-recommend/ • Hand in your complete application on time both online and in physical copies • Be thorough so that you application contains all supporting documents! • Choose correct semester in your application in MoveOn • Choose correct agreement in your application in MoveOn (if there are several agreements with the same name, choose the one called KS – US – Department of Urban Studies)
