  1. OZONE DRINKING WATER SYSTEM

  2. CONTENTS • Properties of Ozone • Production of Ozone • Water Treatment Plant – 25 m3/hr • Ozone Generation System

  3. OZONE OXYGEN CHLORINE O3 O2 CI2 UNSTABLE STABLE STABLE • PROPERTIES OF OZONE • Heavier than the air. • Irritating pale blue gas. • Very reactive and unstable. • Explosive and toxic, even at low concentrations. • 14 times more soluble than oxygen.

  4. PRODUCTION OF OZONE • Electrolytic and chemical reactions. • Exposing oxygen molecules to UV radiation at 185 nm wavelength. • Corona discharge. • Cold plasma method, pure oxygen gas is exposed to plasma created by dielectric barrier discharge.

  5. e- + + OZONE PRODUCED BY CORONA DISCHARGE

  6. PLANT SETUP - 25 M3/HR

  7. COMPRESSOR • Function : Supplies minimum pressure required for ozone system - 3.5 Kg/cm2 • Capacity : 410 LPM • Max Pressure : 18 Kg/cm2 • Air Compression : 6 (starts) – 9 (stops) Kg/cm2 • Safety Valve : 10 Kg/cm2 • Removal of water (moisture content). • Check safety valve pressure adjustment.

  8. FILTERS (Air Filter and Oil Filter) • Function : Protects the ozone system from dust, moisture and oil due to high voltage. • Max Pressure : 11 Kg/cm2 • Working Pressure : 6 – 9 Kg/cm2 • Cleaning and removal of moisture content, dust particles everyday from the filters. • Checking of filter efficiency.

  9. OXYGEN GENERATOR • Function : Removal of moisture and nitrogen. • Max Pressure : 11 Kg/cm2 • Working Pressure : 5 Kg/cm2 • Media in each : Silica Gel – Absorbs Moisture & Molecular Sieves – Absorbs Nitrogen • Each cycle time : One column working, another in regeneration at intervals 3 – 4 mins • Solenoid Valve : Pressure detection for regeneration and draining point for nitrogen. • Installing the generator in the correct direction of flow. • If Media in the indicator filter turns to white then the media in generator columns needs to be replaced.

  10. SURGE TANK • Function : Builds and maintains uniform pressure of oxygen for ozone generation. • Max Pressure : 10.5 Kg/cm2 • Safety Valve : 10 Kg/cm2 • Outlet Pressure : 3.5 Kg/cm2 • Installing the tank in the correct direction of flow.

  11. OZONE CONTROL PANEL • Function : Controls the flow, pressure of oxygen and current to the ozone system. • Pressure Regulator : Maintains constant pressure at 3.5 Kg/cm2. • Flow Regulator : Maximum flow 150 LPM • Power Control : Maximum current 5 A. • Timer : Set to 15 mins for flushing the cells at the start of the system. • Oxygen Flow Switch : Connected to power supply to switch of the system when the flow is less. • Flushing • Oil Coolant for transformer.

  12. OZONE GENERATOR • Function : Production of Ozone. • No. of Dielectric cells : 7 Nos. (6 circular and 1 in center) • Voltage : 8000 - 10000 V • Maximum Capacity : 100 gm/hr. • Check the water recirculation system every time.

  13. FILTER FEED PUMPS • No. of Pumps : 1 W + 1 S • Type of Pumps : Mono blocks • Capacity : 35 m3/hr @ 25 m Head • After installation of pumps, direction of rotation of motor should be in accordance to flow.

  14. FILTERS (PSF & ACF) • Dimensions : 2.0 m H x 1.20 m Dia • Test Pressure : 11 Kg/cm2 • Multiport Valves : Filtration, Backwash, Rinse, Recirculation, Waste, Closed & Pressure gauge • Backwash is necessary when the pressure gauge reading increases by approx 2 Kg/cm2. • When operating multiport valves, pumps need to be switched off.

  15. BOOSTER PUMP • No. of Pumps : 1 W • Type of Pump : Mono block, SS • Capacity : 25 m3/hr @ 10 m Head • Recirculation : 5 m3/hr • After installation of pump, direction of rotation of motor needs to be checked. • Ensure that recirculation of water to the ozone system.

  16. CONTACT SYSTEM • Venturi : 2 Nos. • Capacity : 15 m3/hr • Sequence : Convergent, Throat and Divergent • Mixing Tank : SS , 330 mm H x 300 mm Dia (20 L) • Venturi to be installed in the correct direction as per the flow to create negative pressure.

  17. CONTACT CHAMBER • Dimensions : 1.75 m H x 0.95 m Dia • Volume : 1250 L • Detention time : 3 mins • Diffusers are installed at the bottom of the inlet pipe to have a better mixing. • The Oxidation reduction potential is measured and displayed on the ORP panel.

  18. Reactions take place several thousand times faster than those of chlorine and eliminates: • Inorganic (iron, manganese, hydrogen sulphide, bromide) • Organic (bacteria, viruses, protozoan’s ) • According to the U.S. Council Of Environmental Quality: “Cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine.”
