  2. Making A Schedule • Most of us work best if we have a carefully worked out schedule. • We usually get up about the same time, go to bed at the same time…. • Shouldn’t we schedule time for devotion to God?

  3. Do You Have A Plan? • What is your plan for making devotion to God a part of your day? • Let’s look at reasons why daily devotions are necessary and look at the benefits of worshiping God in that way.

  4. Great People Of God Are Continually In Devotion To Him • Isaac meditated on the word of God • Genesis 24:63 – “He went out to the field one evening to meditate, and as he looked up, he saw camels approaching.”

  5. David Prayed Thrice Daily • Psalm 55:17 -- Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. • Psalm 63:6 -- On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night.

  6. Daniel Habitually Prayed Thrice Daily • Daniel 6:10 -- Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.

  7. Jesus Regularly Spent Private TimeWith God in Prayer • Mark 1:35 – “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”

  8. Luke 6:12 -- One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.

  9. Why Should We Spend Time Daily With God? • So we can draw near to Him and know Him. • James 4:8 -- Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

  10. Proverbs 7:1-3 • My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you. Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.

  11. So We Can Be Spiritually Fed and Healthy • 1 Peter 2:2 -- Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, • As a baby craves milk…

  12. To Mature To Solid Food… Hebrews 5:12 -- In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!

  13. To Keep Our Way Pure • How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

  14. Strengthened Through theIndwelling Spirit • Ephesians 3:16-17a -- I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith….

  15. So We Can Better CopeWith The World’s Trials Philippians 4:6-7 -- Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

  16. To Find The Source For Renewal Isaiah 40:30-31 -- Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

  17. Making A Workable Plan • Find the proper time: Listen to your body’s natural rhythms Are you a night owl? Are you a morning glory? Schedule devotions when you are freshest.

  18. Find The Proper Place • A place free from easy distractions… Matthew 6:6 Find your “inner room”

  19. Find The Proper Mindset James 4:7 -- Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 1 Peter 5:6-7 -- Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

  20. Ready To Be Used • God can use best those who are most willing. • Willing Christians are: • Frequently in the word • Frequently in prayer • Frequently in fellowship with the saints • With this new year make plans to be submissive to the will of God. • Plan for daily devotional time and He will strengthen and help you.
