  2. SAPP: WP-2 Title • Literature and field surveys of indigenous uses of botanical pesticides, analysis of habitat change, formulation of policy recommendations

SAPP WP-2 Objectives • Acquire information about pesticidal plants • Provide database, information leaflets based on traditional and modern uses • Determine current diversity of pesticidal species in Caesalpinoid woodland – highlight uncommon species • Prepare policy document on sustainable economic potential of Caesalpinoid woodlands as a resource for pesticidal plants

  6. SAPP-WP2 Key objectives for this workshop • How do we select species ? (by month 7) • Which sites do we work in per country ? • What drives the selection species /sites (it is species in the proposal) • What type of information do we gather to select species?

  7. SAPP WP-2 Information / knowledge at Kew (traditional) • Flora Zambesiaca: provides information about species and distribution • Databases: SEPASAL / PROTA (published + grey) • Expertise: taxonomic/ pesticidal activity/ chemistry/ ethnobotany

  8. SAPP WP-2 Selection criteria • What and how do we gather it ? (lets look at what we have: SEPASAL)

  9. SAPP WP-2 Criteria • Well documented use (literature + field work) • No (few) adverse responses (lit+FW) • Acceptable by communities (FW) • Plentiful /well distributed (lit+ FW) • Some information know about chemistry (Lit) • Assessable (FW) • Ease of use (FW)
