  4. Vision The Ateneo Chemistry Society is a community that shares a passion in promoting the relevant applications of chemistry for social involvement towards progressive nation-building.
  5. Mission Driven by the desire to provide a deeper understanding of chemistry to others, the organization aims to enrich the appreciation of this science in everyday life by transforming its concepts into experience through innovative and creative projects.
  6. Business statement, Thrust Business statement: Catalyzing social dynamism through excellence in chemistry. Thrust: For this school year, the Ateneo Chemistry Society directs its efforts to membership formation, systems development, and community involvement.
  7. Goals To organize chemistry-related activities such as competitions, seminars, company tours, exhibits, and the like. To provide academic assistance to its members and the Ateneo student body through tutorials, book-lending programs, and study guide contributions. To strengthen the bond between the Society and the Chemistry Department by organizing activities such as seminars and talks wherein the faculty could participate and provide their contributions.
  8. Goals To conduct activities that foster camaraderie and cooperation among its members through the house system and other recreational activities such as general assemblies, sports festivals, family days, and social gatherings. To provide avenues for creative expression among its members through the tambayan logbook, ACheS publication, ACheS website, and other artistic endeavors related to chemistry. To reach out to the Filipino community by means of projects that enhance interest and awareness in chemistry.

Office of the Vice-Presidents for Publications and Documentations Catalyst Magazine Volunteers needed: Operations heads Documen-tations head Writers and contributors Target date: September 11 (1st issue) Editor-in-chief: GianUygongco Description Catalyst promotes the organization to its members and allows these members to showcase their creative talents. This year’s publication will focus more on science features but will also contain reports about organization projects.

Office of the Vice-Presidents for Publications and Documentations ACheS Website Committees needed: Reporting Layouting Target date: end of first semester Webmaster: ElliardYanza Description Being an online organization portfolio, the ACheS website will contain news updates regarding recently concluded and upcoming projects. Other relevant articles such as Catalyst features will also be included in the website.

Office of the Vice-Presidents for Publications and Documentations Adobe Seminar Series Committees needed: Secretariat Finance Logistics Documen-tations Target date: August 7 and 10 Project head: Albert Chen Description The Adobe Seminar Series introduces members and Ateneans to concepts involved in layouting promotional materials. The first seminar will cover a basic approach to the programs while the second one will involve more advanced techniques as well as marketing tips.

Office of the Vice-President for Academics Academic Seminar Series Committees needed: Secretariat Finance Programs Logistics Documen-tations and promotions Target date: August 24 (1st seminar) Project head: Kevin Chan Description Aimed at member formation in the areas of academic excellence and career exploration, the Academic Seminar Series will involve talks, discussions, and workshops that address the members’ concerns regarding these areas.

Office of the Vice-President for Academics Chemistry Connections Committees needed: Secretariat Finance Programs Logistics Questions Documen-tations and promotions Target date: August 11-24 Project head: Zara Melgar Description Chemistry Connections is a chemistry competition open to all CH 7 students of the first semester. Aimed at promoting a deeper appreciation of chemistry, this contest challenges the participants with questions of different levels of difficulty in a quiz bee setting.

Office of the Vice-President for Academics ACheS IHSCC Committees needed: Secretariat Finance Programs Logistics Questions Documen-tations and promotions Target date: second semester Project heads: Zara Melgar and Isen Calderon Description The ACheS Inter-High School Chemistry Competition is open to all third year high school students. The ACheS IHSCC challenges the participants with chemistry questions from basic, intermediate, and advanced high school chemistry.

Office of the Vice-President for Academics A-Problem-a-Week Volunteers needed: One person per house Description This year-long project aims to promote academic excellence through a weekly dose of chemistry problems. One problem per week will be given for each batch (1st to 4th year), and one member per house must submit an answer. Correct entries will merit house points, and a prize will be raffled off among correct submissions at the end of the week.

Office of the Vice-President for External Special Projects CorpTours Committees needed: Secretariat Finance Logistics Documen-tations and promotions Target date: August 19 Project head: Keith Villanueva Description CorpTours gives members an opportunity to visit factories and/or offices of two chemistry-related corporations. The tour will also include brief talks to be given by company representatives.

Project head: HaizellAnore Description PlayChem is a tie-up project with TUGON that involves various chemistry-related activities that are specifically geared towards children. Volunteers will get to spend a half-day with TUGON kids.

Office of the Vice-President for External Special Projects Build-a-Lab Committees needed: Secretariat Finance Logistics Public rela-tions Documen-tations and promotions Target date: year-long Project head: Leo Sala Description Build-a-Lab is a tie-up project between ACheS and COA that aims to sponsor the building/renovation of the chemistry laboratory of a selected public high school in Metro Manila.

Target date: semester-long Contact person: Geoffrey Tan Description First floor Schmitt lockers can be rented for a semester for only P50. Registration starts on Tuesday.

Volunteer na! Description ACheS, in cooperation with a cinema of choice, will sponsor the movie premiere of New Moon, the second installment in Stephenie Meyer's twilight saga on November 2009.

Office of the Vice-President for Internal Special Projects Freshie Support Group Volunteers needed: Ates Kuyas Description This year-long program aims to guide ACheS freshmen through their first year in chemistry and in the Ateneo. The EB is looking for possible ates and kuyas to take care of our freshmen, mainly for advice on teachers, tests, and most importantly, postlabs.

This will be done through various GD’s and processing.

  40. ACheS Week Description ACheS Week is a week-long celebration and appreciation of chemistry and its applications. It consists of different projects that are open to the whole Ateneo community. For this year, projects include Beat the Chem Geeks, ACheS Seminar, Ice Cream Making Contest, Marble Madness, Kimikantahan and the Major Sale.

It is open to Ateneans, but is geared towards CH 1 students.

Office of the Vice-President for Publications and Documentations ACheS Week Seminar Committees needed: Secretariat Finance Logistics Programs Documen-tations and promotions Target date: September 15 Project head: Mea Pangan Description The ACheS Week Seminar aims to introduce Ateneans to the chemistry concepts behind the cosmetics industry. Relevant topics such as manufacturing processes will be tackled.

Office of the Vice-President for Academics Beat the Chem Geeks Committees needed: Secretariat Finance Questions Logistics Programs Documen-tations and promotions Target date: ACheS Week Project heads: Cherry Oracion and Phil Gotico Description Beat the Chem Geeks is a chemistry competition open to CH 1 students. It allows participants to challenge professors from the Ateneo chemistry department.

Both food and non-food booths are also welcome to sell their products.

It is basically a mini-concert by members and for members to celebrate the success of ACheS week.
