  3. Step 2: Find a Good Topic Consider several issues with opposing viewpoints Pick an issue that you feel passionate about and can argue Decide which side of the position you want to argue

  4. Step 3: Gather Evidence Go through the text to find evidence that supports your argument You may also want to find evidence that supports the opposing argument as well

  5. Step 4: Begin Writing! Once you have picked your position and have gathered your evidence, begin writing!

In-Text Citations • When incorporating evidence from another source, be sure to CITE exactly where your evidence is coming from. • For example, when talking about Romeo’s “love” for Juliet… • Friar Laurence does not believe that Romeo is actually in love with Juliet. This is proven through Friar Laurence’s conversation with Romeo when he says, “Holy Saint Francis, what a change is here! / Is Rosaline, that thou didst love so dear, / So soon forsaken? Young men’s love then lies / Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes” (Act 2, Scene 3, Lines 65-68).
