  2. What is Economics? Most simply put, economics is the study of making choices Economics examines how we make choices: • a new car or college tuition? • more hospitals or more highways? • more free time or more income from work? It gives us a way of understanding how to make best use of natural resources, machinery, and people's work

  3. The AS Economics Course Unit 1. Markets and Prices • Study of the basic economic problem of resource allocation. • Understand how demand and supply works and to analyse the effects of demand and supply on different types of firms. • To study how firms operate in different markets and what to do if these markets fail to function properly. Unit 2. The National Economy • Study of the nature and causes of national economic issues. • Discuss issues such as economic growth, inflation, unemployment and balance of payments • Study of how the Government’s policies can influence the issues.

  4. A2 Economics Course Unit 3. Business Economics • Builds on content of AS micro-economics. • Study of how firms make decisions. Unit 4. The Global Economy • Builds on content of AS macro-economics. • Looks at international trade and exchange rates. • Study of the European Union • And, the impact of globalisation.

  5. Why Study A Level Economics? • Economics affects everything we do from buying a newspaper to getting married. • It is a well regarded academic A level. Well respected by employers and Universities. • Serves as a complement to many other subjects. • Good career prospects. Students who study Economics earn, on average, more than most other subjects. • Economic students can work in a variety of industries, including business, finance, and banking. • To be the next Richard Branson!

  6. How will my progress be assessed ? • Students will be set activities that are to be completed for the following week. • There will be a one-hour tutorial per week which will involve a discussion of the students’ completed activities • Students will be set assignments that are tutor- marked every three weeks. • There will regular reports sent to the tutor to the Link Teacher at the school.

  7. What will my school need to do? • Have video conference equipment • Low cost options available, ask MBLS • Have suitable room for VC • Provide a dedicated link teacher • Contact AQA to book examinations Education
