    3. Poison Gas Start of chemical warfare Germans invented chlorine gas that was shot from trenches. Mustard gas was next. Gas shot into trenches to get men out of the trenches. It would burn throat and lungs, blinded, choked and death by suffocation. Effective but unreliable.
