  2. La Titan Arum fue descubierta en 1878 en la isla de Sumatra, Indonesia, cuyos habitantes le dieron el poco atractivo nombre de "cadavérica" debido a su desagradable olor. Sólo unos cuantos jardines botánicos del mundo lograron cultivarla fuera de su medio natural. La flor -cuyo pistilo de color amarillo puede llegar a medir entre uno y tres metros de altura- florece una vez cada cinco o diez años y sólo por 72 horas. Con hasta cien kilos de peso, estos ejemplares tienen una corola purpúrea y se cree que son portadores de energía sexual.
