  1. November 30, 2016 • Entry task: List the different foods you should consume everyday for healthy lives. • Target: Identify the six nutrients.

  2. Today: • Nutrient Jumble • Go over nutrient project • Read book on your nutrient section/take notes

  3. Nutrient Jumble • You will receive a card that I give to you. • You must go around the room and find out what category or “nutrient” you fit into. • The cards will have the nutrient name, the foods associated, the definition, and a picture of the food.

  4. Nutrient Jumble • Protein • Builds and repairs body tissue. • Made up of small units called amino acids • Maintains cell growth in the formation of new body tissue. • This is especially important if the body is growing rapidly, injured, or under stress. • Milk, meat, fish, eggs, beans and cheese.

  5. Fats • helps regulate body temperature. • allow your body to transport and store certain nutrients. • Belong to a larger group of compounds called lipids • Meat, oil, corn oil, soybean oil, shortening and margarine.

  6. Vitamins • Complex organic substances • You need them in small amounts for normal growth, maintenance and reproduction • Are either fat-soluble or water-soluble • Fresh fruits and veggies, citrus fruits, strawberries, cantaloupe, green leafy veggies, broccoli, green peppers

  7. Minerals • Cannot be produced by our bodies. • They must be ingested (eaten in our food). • They are inorganic substances that make up 4% body weight • Become part of the bones, soft tissues and body fluids • Mico and macro • Calcium, folate, pottasium, sodium

  8. Carbohydrates • The bodies chief source of energy • Furnish the body with energy • They make up, by far, the largest volume (60%) of our daily food. • Cereal, pasta, bread, rice and potatoes.

  9. Water • Essential nutrient. • Can’t go more than a few days without it. • Serves as the body’s transportation system • Water is a lubricant. The presence of water in and around body tissues helps defend the body against shock. • 60-75% of your body is made up of this • Juice, Milk, Lettuce, • Celery, Crisp veggies, • Watermelon, Orange

  11. Read and Take Notes • In your section starting on page 33, read and take notes on your nutrient
