  3. What is this class about? Study of some basic elements of the physical world in which CLIMATE and LANDFORMS are examined under their natural occurrences, distribution, and interrelationships.

  4. Why am I here? • To teach you how the place where we live is like (e.g. the earth), focusing on the dynamic of the most important natural processes. • To give you a pet at the end of this semester • Alligator • Bird • Cat • Dog • Elephant

  7. Tests and Exams • Two (2) tests, each worth 15% of final grade. • Two (2) examinations, each worth 35% of final grade.

  8. Tests = 15% each • TEST #1: Thursday May 19th(Material covered: May 10th – May 18th) ... closed book • TEST #2: Thursday June 9th(Material covered: June 1st – June 8th) ... closed book

  9. Exams = 35% each • MIDTERM EXAM: Friday May 27th(Material covered: May 10th – May 26th) ... opened book • FINAL EXAM: June 16th(Material covered: June 1st – June 17th) ... opened book.

  10. Grading scale • A: 90% or above • A-: 87-89% • B+: 84-86% • B: 80-83% • B-: 77-79% • C+: 74-76% • C: 70-73% • C-: 67-69% • D+: 64-66% • D: 60-63% • D-: 57-59% • E: 56 or below

  11. The Commercial Notes Warning • In the eventuality of a discussion over grading I will recognize my notes and any text book as being an authoritative source. • I will not recognize any commercially reproduced course notes.

  12. Difficulties you are going to face in this class • English is not my native language • But my Hindi is… • Reading maps and graphs/diagrams • Understanding the material

  13. How to overcome lecture difficulties • Come to class • Feel free to ask questions if you don’t understand and use the office hours. • The office hours are dedicated to you!!!

  14. Rules • You are responsible to come to class & get the class materials • There will be NOmake up exams given • Unless you have a valid excuse • Cheating will not be tolerated • Read the syllabus for more rules

Three Things That Really Annoy Me • Cell phones … I will embarrass you if your cell phone rings! • Likewise, you can embarrass me if my cell phone rings  • Talking in classis like farting in an elevator … just think about that. I’m sure you guys don’t wanna picture it right now. • Reading the newspaper in class – it’s better to read underneath a tree & have fun with squirrels than in the classroom.

  17. Advice: Know your classmates • Turn to your left and right and make some friends • What are friends for? • Copying homework? • Take turns to come to the class? • Studying with friends is much better than studying on your own
