  2. Our objective today: To Celebrate and to Disseminate our 2 year education collaboration between Southwark (UK) and the Algarve (PT) 2011 – 2013 Why? Both to highlight the work our partnership has done around the theme of ‘the multicultural classroom’ and to highlight the funding and opportunities available which others here today might want to take up... ..

  3. What is ‘REGIO’? • The EU offers a range of funded opportunities for those in School Education – COMENIUS Administered in every member state by a NAG (The British Council in the UK) (Currently part of the LLP...to be re-launched in 2014)

  4. Regio Partnerships • Where 2 regions of the EU link up to • --Develop an ongoing relationship between them • --& Focus on a particular educational theme of their choosing • Incorporates –the regional education bodies, at least 1 school on each side, at least one ‘expert’ additional partner

  5. MCMC—Meeting the Challenge of the Multicultural Classroom • 2011 – 2013 • Linking Southwarkand the Algarve • Around theme of intercultural education (based on the understanding that both regions share the experience of educating pupils of many nationalities and cultures) 4 Southwark Schools 3 groups of Algarve Schools + expert Training Organisation on each side (Goldsmiths Educational Studies & Centro De Formacao Dr Rui Gracio)

Our Journey: • In 2011, our partnership was awarded 90,000 Euros In order to carry out our 2 year plan of activities —joint meetings in both regions, development and delivery of teacher CPD in both regions, web site and film outcomes We additionally applied for in-service funding for teacher job shadowing between us Full details/ docs/ photos at www.mcmc-regio.com

  7. Today, speakers from both sides will outline our journey... • Regional level impact • CPD (Expert partner level) • Teacher participants experience THE ALGARVE then SOUTHWARK
