  2. INTRODUCTION • Since its humble beginnings as a computer company flogging hand built machines conceived by an out of work college dropout, the Apple empire has certainly come far. Today, Apple Inc. has almost 50,000 employees and reported a $14 billion profit in 2010, becoming one of the most valuable computer technology companies in the world. Moreover, it has become a unique brand phenomenon with Apple products being snatched up all across the world - and consumers are still clamouring for more. • Let`s look back at some history of the company

  3. 1976 - Apple was first founded on 1 April 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne. Wayne subsequently sold his share of the company back to his partners for $800. The first offering by the company was a hand built Apple I personal computer retailing for $666.66 • .

  4. Apple computers did not sell well until 1977, when the Apple II was unveiled at a West Coast Computer Faire. The Apple II was the first computer to be built in a plastic case and to feature color graphics. In early 1978, Apple Disk II floppy drive was introduced and further increased sales of Apple Computers. The Apple II was positioned well ahead of its competitors and subsequently became the personal computer of choice for the business world with the VisiCalc spreadsheet program.

  5. 1984 - Apple launches the Macintosh with its powerful TV commercial directed by Ridley Scott. The Mac was a success thanks to its advanced graphical capabilities. It performed well at first, but sales quickly declined due to the small amount of RAM and lack of hard drive. During 1985, Apple introduced the LaserWriter, the first affordable laser printer for the Mac and PageMaker, a desktop publishing program. These two items gave the Mac an edge in the desktop publishing realm, and increased sales for Apple Computers. 1980-1985 In 1980, the Apple III was released which contained a processor that could run at 2 megahertz and 128K of on-board RAM.

  6. 1985 - Co-founder Steve Jobs resigns from Apple and goes on to develop a new computer company, NeXT Inc. • 1986 – 1993Apple produces a few product flops including a digital camera, portable CD players and video consoles. 1987 - The Mac II was introduced. It was designed by hardware engineers Michael Dhuey (computer) and Brian Berkeley (monitor).The primary improvement in the Mac II was Color QuickDrawin ROM.

  7. 1996 - Apple purchases NeXT, bringing Steve Jobs back into Apple as an advisor. He eventually became the interim CEO until 2000 when he officially stepped into the role permanently. • The NeXTstep operating system would become the basis for the next-generation Apple operating system, Rhapsody. • In 1997, the PowerMac G3 and PowerBook G3, both built on the PPC 750 processor, were introduced. At the same time, Apple also introduced the Apple Store, an online store which would sell Apple products directly to the consumer.

From iPod to iPad • In October, 2001, Apple started selling the iPod - a hard drive-based digital music player which worked with the iTunes software. • 2002 brought about the new iMac and the iPhoto software application. In January, 2003, Apple combined iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie and iDVD into a single iLife software bundle. • 2007 - The first Apple iPhone is launched revolutionizing smart phone technology and mobile computing. • 2010 - Continuing to blaze new paths, Apple introduces the iPad tablet computer that worked with all iPhone applications. The iPad has already sold almost 15 million units in its first year and consumers are already looking to buy or rent an i-Pad 2.

  9. iPods (1st Generation (2001) and 6th Generation (2007)) iPad 2102 and iMac 2012

  10. Apple is all ready to launch many new iProducts in 2013, including updated versions of iPad and iPhone. The top new products would be iPhone 5 Mini and iPad Mini 2. • iPad 5 is to be launched in March 2013. There would be IGZO display of Sharp in the device and it would be slimmer and lighter compared to its existing version. There are speculations that iPad 5 would resemble iPad Mini. It may include a new processor, much better than A6X. • iPad Mini 2 would be a successive launch of Apple after iPad Mini launched last year. It may have Retina Display, enhanced RAM, and an upgraded processor.
