Why Retail Management • World’s largest private sector contributing 8% of the GDP (global) and 14% of our GDP. • Employ one sixth of labor force. • India's retail market is estimated at $470 billion in 2011 and is expected to grow to $675 bnby 2016 and $850 n by 2020 • Second largest sector which provides employment to more number of persons. • India is classified in to the fifth most attractive retail destination and second among the countries in Asia with 1.2 billion people

E- Retailing • Thisis a form of electronic commerce which allows consumers to directly buy goods or servicesfrom a seller over theInternet  using a web browser • 2008 census ,about 3.6 percent of all retail sales were occurring online. • Indian e-tailing industry is estimated at Rs 3,600 crore (US$800 mn) in 2011 and estimated to grow to Rs 53,000 Crore ($11.8 billion) in 2015.
