  2. Larry Summer’s theory: • Women can’t do stat 2)Women don’t like such demanding jobs • Women aren’t very persistent • Well, maybe they can do stat, but they aren’t very good at it

  3. It’s the Nominations, Stupid If you are not nominated, you can’t win. So, why aren’t more women nominated? Intentional discrimination Oversight Insufficient self-promotion Failure to establish networks Bad career choices

  4. Remedies Make a positive effort to include women (as well as other underrepresented groups) Sensitize selection committees Look around you Colleagues Collaborators Authors Speakers
