  1. 8.2 Cell Growth and Reproduction Part 2. Reproduction

  2. Interphase • G1 – rapid growth and protein production • S – DNA replication • G2 – cell prepares for division

  3. Interphase

  4. Mitosis • Prophase • Chromatin coils up into chromosomes • Nucleus disappears • Centrioles move to opposite ends of cell • Spindle fibers form Chromosome is made of two sister chromatids, Exact copies formed when DNA is copied during interphase Centromere – holds sister chromatids together

  5. Mitosis • Metaphase • Spindle fibers attach to centromeres • Chromosomes line up on midline of cell

  6. Mitosis • Anaphase • Centromeres split • Sister chromatids separate • Spindle fibers pull sister chromosomes to opposite sides

  7. Mitosis • Telophase • Sister chromatids reach opposite ends • Chromosomes uncoil • Nucleus forms around each set of chromatin

  8. Mitosis • Cytokinesis • Cytoplasm divides • Two daughter cells are formed

  9. Mitosis
