  1. Scientific Method

  2. Steps to solve a problem • Identify the problem • Create a hypothesis • ·       Must be a statement and includes what you are doing, what will happen, and what critter you are testing • C. Test your hypothesis… could be data (numbers) or words • Analyze the data to see if it matches the hypothesis

  3. Wanna buy a car? • Identify 3 or 4 questions you need to know the answers to first. (groups, scrap paper) • Form your hypothesis • Test your hypothesis • Reform another hypothesis, if the first one does not work

  4. CONTROL: • no change- • use to compare • (ex. No fertilizer, normal sunlight, etc.)

  5. INDEPENDENT VARIABLE • : factor that was changed • ex. Using fertilizer, adding more or less light • - can only have 1 variable at a time

  6. DEPENDENT VARIABLE • : the factor you measure • growth, time • It depends on what you measure

  7. CONSTANT • factors that are the same between the control and independent variable

  8. Hypothesis: Plants grow taller with fertilizer • Control • Independent variable • Dependant variable is

  9. Constants will be

  10. Now, • Work in groups to answer the questions for the 3 scenarios. If you do not finish, it is homework.
