  8. FAA Hiring Pattern • FAA will replace more than 50% of their line controllers and managers by 2011. Estimating hires of 1000 per year starting in 2002. In 2002 and 2003 only approximately 300 per year. • 15,300 line controllers should grow to 17,300 by 2011 to account for increased traffic levels. This additional 2000 controllers was not in the FAA plan. • FAA may hire as many as 5000 controllers prior to 06 with an additional 10,000 by the year 2001.
